That's quite interesting. I guess this was similarly the case with the Pythagorians?

BTW, just out of curiosity, do you have a "position" regarding the ontology of mathematics? I'm struck by the fact that so many mathematicians seem to adopt a Platonist perspective. I find this idea sort of strange, and I'd be interested to hear your view on the matter - if indeed you have one.
