"You might explore the book titled Sunburst, A People, a Path, a Purpose, the story of the most provocative communal group in America today
It's by Subnburst community residents, & discusses your question.
In the end, divergent personalities didn't get along any more."
Dusk & Willow are wonderful people but the story they tell in their book does not mention the controversy that had been raging because they were relative newcomers & were not aware of what was going on regarding Norm's substance abuse, child molestation, weapon stockpiling, etc.
Like many in the community who were not close to Norm they were simply not aware &/or chose not to be aware of what was going on inside the organization until much later. Some people took years to finally learn the truth as there was a huge culture of censorship that kept people from questioning or speaking the truth & being able to stay there. People who were invested in staying there chose to be in denial.
This is quite typical of many families who go through this very same thing when one member is an abuser of substances or of people.
