Subject: The Coptic Church

Coptic was the language spoken widely by the native population of Egypt from the middle of the 3rd to the 10th century. Scholars believe it to be similar to ancient Egyptian, but with many Greek words incorporated. It is written in an alphabet similar to Greek.

The Coptic Church, according to tradition was founded by St. Mark, with monasticism being introduced by St. Anthony in the 4th century.

The Coptic Church became more and more isolated from the rest of Christianity mainly due to it's doctrine of Monophysitism (the teaching that the Incarnate Christ had a single, divine nature, as opposed to the standard Chriostian doctrine of a dual - human and divine - nature).

In the 7th century the Copts were conquered by the Arabs, and the number of Copts, and the strength of the Coptic Church has gradually declined.

I could not find anything which supports the idea of secret techings and mystery schools dating back to ancient Egypt, as hinted at by Hamid Bey.
