In reply to: Almir - 21 Mar 2001 's message, "Tribute to Paramahansa Yogananda from Swami Sivananda, a great Saint and Yogi" on 11:51

Extracts from a conversation between Sri Daya Mata and Swami Chidananda, president of the Divine Life Society on February 5th 1986.

Sri Daya Mata: Years ago, Guruji (Paramahansa Yogananda) saw the world’s present problems coming, and he started what he called the Worldwide Prayer Circle. And he invited devotees all over the world – in every country – to join in united meditation and prayer for world peace, and for individuals as well. So that has been going on these many years since Guruji left his body; in all parts of the world there are devotees who practice this – not only in their homes but coming together in group meditation as well. And that is what is necessary.

Swami Chidananda: Mother! What you are saying is wonderful!

Daya Mata: Everyone must join together in praying for the wellbeing of all – forgetting politics, forgetting nations. The Lord doesn’t say, “Now let’s see - you came from Russia, you came from America, you came from India, and so on.” He says, “These are all my children. I sent them out into the world into different nations, and I want them to understand each other. I want them to love one another. I want them to communicate instead of quarrelling.”
Guruji taught us the same thing here in the ashram: “Always remember this:Fools argue, wise men discuss.” This is the principle all people should follow. Let us sit down quietly and calmly and discuss, so we can understand one another.

Chidananda: How wonderful it would be if all the great world religions would meet, and issue a call to all their millions of followers to pray for human harmony! If it comes from the Pope and all the Jagadguru Shankaracharyas and all the Eastern Orthodox patriarchs, the highest Islamic head, the Jewish and Buddhist leaders, then all the world would join in. Only in that sattwic (spiritual) way can we counter the hatred in the world today, the terrorists who are telling their followers, “Hate, kill, war, assassinate.”

Data Mata: Guruji taught us that in the mornings our minds are freest from worldly obligations. So let there be a time before we get involved in our worldly duties when we sit to meditate and pray for world peace for five or ten minutes – longer if we can. First of all we should try to feel that inner peace which is the first proof of God’s presence, and then deeply pray with the whole heart for the well-being of mankind. You know, this whole universe is the “frozen” thought of God. And our thought if we unite it with that divine thought, has tremendous force. If all over the world people begin to send out powerful thoughts and vibrations of peace, of goodwill, we can do much to do away with the terrible horrors of war.

Chidananda: The entire globe must be covered by this power of peace, love, goodwill, harmony. God means all these things. May He bestow success on this idea of having billions of people all over the world joining together at a given time each day, lifting their hearts and minds into the presence of God, the Ever-Present Reality, and appealing ardently, fervently, earnestly for peace to prevail upon all.

Daya Mata: Yes. Nations will not know peace unless individuals know peace. If all humanity would find that peace of God in their hearts through meditation, and manifest it in their relationships with others, peace among nations would be a reality.
