Subject: Mu and Atlantis
In reply to: anon - 15 April 2002 's message, "Atlantis's proof" on 15:53

Those who deny the existence of the Land of Mu (so-called Lemuria) and of Atlantis often say that there is no evidence that two such continents could have existed only 12,000 years ago because they feel it is impossible for the two to have vanished so completely, and that if they had existed, it would have required a cataclysm of enormous proportions. Accordingly, the first step in pursuing evidence of their existence might well be to examine the scientific evidence (geological, climatological, etc.) to see if there is any indication of such an event ... or two.
Modern scientists have now pretty well come to agreement that the dinosaurs vanished as the result of an impact of a meteor, and they pretty much agree that such events have occurred more than once during the life of this planet.
The effects, both short term and long term, of such an impact vary quite dramatically depending upon whether the impact was upon land or into an ocean. The geological and climatological records show quite clearly that such an ocean impact event occurred in the southern hemisphere approximately 12,000 years ago, and again in the northern hemisphere approximately 11,500 years ago. This is the reason that the ice age ended so abruptly and uncharacteristically in the southern hemisphere at that time, and in the northern hemisphere 500 years later.
This information is freely available to anyone who makes the effort to look it up. And an ocean impact in the southern Pacific Ocean 12,000 years ago could fully account for the disappearance of most of Mu, while an impact 500 years later could fully account for the disappearance of Atlantis.
So, it is logical that anyone looking for scientific evidence of the existence of these two lost continents should first verify what I have written, because this information makes it "possible" for them to have existed and also accounts for their disappearance.
