There is a vast difference between those who are undertaking genuine research and trying to find evidence of the possible existence of a former civilisation and someone who simply states that he is a Lord of Mu in the way Paulsen does. Equally there is a difference between those who are searching for evidence of extraterrestrial civilisations, such as the SETI project, and someone like Paulsen who claims to have travelled in alien spaceships, but who can provide no reason for us to believe his claims.

"I volunteered to be a warrior over one million years ago. I remember it all
vividly and only make this claim to verify my position in all this. I was,
at one time one of the ancient rulers of Mu and her people. I have been the
captain of many divine celestial Mus in the past. The Star Pilot is a
reflection of my own starship out in space, lost forever in the war. I have
been space-wrecked many times and marooned on planets waiting to be picked

Norman Paulsen, Sunburst, page 522.

I once met the Archangel Gabriel at an underground station, at least that's what he told me. This particular Archangel smelt of alcohol, and had apparently swapped his wings for some filthy clothes which he kept some more cans of beer in. It may have been the Archangel Gabriel, but I decided he was probably just another drunk, and his claims were probably untrue.

Why should Paulsen's claims be taken any more seriously?
