In principle we could test a yogi to see whether they remain aware through anesthesia. See my answer to Ketch, above.
The fact that it is difficult to say how consciousness could arise from a material thing like a brain is hardly answered by insisting that there must be an immaterial thing that is not a brain that creates consciousness. (And at least in the former case we have evidence of a dependence relation.)
