Dearest Norman,

Thank you for your kind and knowledgeable reply.

There is a popular saying that goes, "if we shoot for the moon and fall short, we land amongst the stars." The beauty of the great Masters is that they set the bar quite high for all of us. True masters inspire us to aim for the Highest. In their writings, I have no doubt that they were well aware that the majority of people will not be able to practice perfect celibacy. In my post on the subject, I am quite aware of this as well.

There is apparently an entry in the journals of Lahiri Mahasay (found by his wife), in which he wrote of his "urge for sex." Yet Lahiri Baba lead a balanced life, in which he regulated all of his activities. I agree with you that moderation is the most important thing, and that for the devotee who is sincere, God himself will guide us to Him if we only only strive.

May blessings of God and Gurus be upon us.

humble,
Chris
