Subject: Brahmacharya

There are so many texts and books written about spiritual
development, yet unfortunately, there is one vital element that surprisingly, is often left out; that element is brahmacharya.

Many people complain about their lack of rapid spiritual
progress. Sincere seekers want to realize God rapidly, they are aware of the misery and suffering of worldly existence.

The term "Brahmacharya," literally translated, means "one who roams (perpetually) in God. The more commonly understood definition is celibacy. How many people cringe on hearing this word, celibacy? Despite the fact that many do not want to hear this, it must be stated, that without celibacy, God-Realization is impossible. All of the great masters have taught this. All who were successful in realizing God, without exception, practiced celibacy. Even householder yogis like Lahiri Mahasay used sex solely for the purpose of procreation, to bring forth children. This is its divinely intended purpose, and when used thus, is not a violation of brahmacharya. We must work sincerly, with all our might, to get established in
brahmacharya, or celibacy.

The divine, creative Force, or Energy of this universe is
refered to as "Shakti." This Shakti energy exists in all
beings. It is responsible for the shine in a person's face, lustre in the eyes. It is our very vitality, and it is the sexual, or reproductive energy (semen) in man. It is a sad fact that 99.9 percent of people in this world waste this vital energy, and so insult this Shakti energy. The sex act is a tremendous drain on the physical nervous system, and it's astral counterpart, the psychic nervous system. Note how you feel immediately following the sex act. You are drained, depleted, the nerves are shaky and unsteady. Depression often follows. Look at a person who is promiscuous, and very soon you will see that they are pale, lines appear in the face. They have no stamina or energy. They become prey to all sorts of illnesses. Now look at a celibate Yogi. You will undoubtedly see that they radiate "tejas" (sanskrit), a spiritual glow. They have tremendous charisma, everyone is naturally attracted to them.

Even as a rocket that is not fully fuelled cannot reach orbit, one who does not conserve this energy cannot attain God-Realization. This is truth. Shakti energy is verily the rocket-fuel that restructures the nervous system to allow it to withstand the tremendous spiritual radiation that will ensue when Kundalini awakens.

We must strive for this, it is our divine duty. Start out by taking a vow of brahmacharya (in thought, word, and deed) for one week. If you refrain from the physical act, while yet entertaining sexual thoughts, this is a disaster waiting to happen. Sexual thoughts result in a chain-reaction, in which sexual energy/fluid is produced. Think of the analogy of a dam-it has to go somewhere. Do not be dismayed if you slip up. Many of the Masters have stumbled, even as we do as we strive for Self-Realization. After you are successful in one week of brahmacharya, extend to two weeks, one month. Ascended Beings rush to the aid of one who strives for Perfection. Do not give
up. Even the practice of a little bit of self-control goes a long way. I myself, while still struggling on this path, have noticed great spiritual progress in my attempts at getting established in brahmacharya. I am sure that you will too. The more you conserve the vital sexual energy, the more joy you will feel, the more vitality you will have. If you practice this, you will see this for youself.

great websites on the subject:

Search under "Sri Swami Sivananda" You will find his website will many of his great works.

Also, "www.celibacy.org" is a great website on the subject.

May God and Gurus bless us with success in realizing the Goal of life in this very incarnation.

humble,

Chris
