Subject: Recording an analogue signal ...

HELP HELP HELP!!!

I know what I am asking is really simple but I just can't get it to work ...

I want to record into my computer from an analogue signal (for example from minidisc or vinyl record player). I have tried simply plugging in the the minidisc player through a 3.5mm jack into the Line In on my PC, but when I try to record using the "Wave Recorder" provided with my machine - it doesn't even register anything coming through the "Line In".

Can anyone help???
