Kinda brings back some memories there. One early am we had grouped at the North end for pickup when a lot of fire trucks, ambulances, etc., all of a sudden appeared out on the taxiway. Soon we see an aircraft approaching from the North so we all figured just a routine emergency landing. Well it was an F-4 (we later learned with hanging ordinance) coming in. As soon as the wheels hit the runway, the airplane disappeared!! I guess the ordinance was a large bomb. There was a flash, a boom, and nothing left but little pieces raining down everywhere. I doubt if they found anything identifiable left to send back and bury.
