my peahen hatched out 5 chicks in may. they lived for a week and just weakened and died. the same happened last year. She is sitting on eggs again due in 3 weeks. Am worried she will loose them again. They seem to start getting weak and breathing heavily and lay down and die. Ikeep an infrared light on them. Thanks.

One cause of death for chicks or peachicks is coccidiosis.
I am always careful to buy chick starter medicated with
Amprolium and accept no other. I feed this to peachicks
that are with natural peahen mother and to peachicks that
are from eggs that were incubated by chicken for first 23
days, rinsed carefully in warm water, candled to remove
infertile and rotten eggs, and transferred to incubator to
hatch in controlled sanitary condition before moving to
brooder
