Our pea's have just turned two and the male seems very interested in mating. He throws open his tail like every youtube video you've ever seen, but in addition to that he's waved a fishing net at the female as well as holding a 3' stick in his mouth and this weekend he found a padlock he brought out in the play yard to show to her. Is this normal behavior? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Those are some strange items for a peacock pick up.
Peafowls that socializing may pick up a pebble or small
piece of wood and nibble on it before placing it in front
of another peafowl who may pick it up to continue the
"game". They could be trying to see which is the alpha
bird (the boss).
Sometimes a peafowl will hold a discarded wing feather
while doing the territorial display (fan dance).
Years ago I was able to persuade a very young white
spalding male to hold an American flag as he displayed
just long enough to get a photo. But as he grew up he
had better things to do than be nice to his keeper.
I had a pet peahen that was better at flag waving but she
has died.
