Subject: PEACOCK CHORUS Author: helen [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: 10:52:19 05/25/09 Mon I am now wondering, what the 'calling' period is for a peacock in the UK? (as this may differ from other contries due to climate and season difference?). My two, two-year-old boys, started calling 4.30am on April 10th this year. I LOVE IT - IT IS WHY I BROUGHT THEM. Unfortunately, my one neighbour doesn't love it. I thought that with having only one neighbour, who lives a bit of a distance away and who has a cockerel herself, that i would get away with it. But perhaps not!! The calling now starts before 4am and continues, on and off, for about an hour (maybe an hour and a half) - i even love that! They then stop until a more reasonable 7 or 8am. The trouble is, because it wakes my neighbour up and they can't get back to sleep, i think it maybe unfair for me to keep my peacocks :( When will they quieten down?(my research on the internet says April to Sept)and will they ever start calling at a more reasonable hour? So here at my home in Georgia USA there is NO such thing as a quiet season but right now with the breeding season in full swing--there is much "music" in the air. If they hear a truck or any suspicious noise they will begin screaming. Or I can sing to Rainbow/Rambo and be answered with a passion scream. Hey, a peacock scream is more refreshing than ice cream!!!!!!!!! I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream

They were going absolutely mental about three weeks ago. I find they're quieter if I pen them up with the chickens, but if I let them go and roost (outside my neighbours bedroom window! NOooo!) then they still make a bit of a racket even now. They start about 5am, but it's only intermittent now. The time when they peee-owed all night has gone (I hope). Did you see I left you a message on here titled 'Helen'?
