We have had over a week of mostly rainy weather here in
Georgia. The dark clouds and the barometric pressure do
cause my old bones to hurt. I was feeling supremely
grumpy but had myself in control as always.
I found a catalpa hornworm and decided to give it to
Everest who normally can eat from my hand in the manner of
a gentleman (his father, Neverland the Insane, had the the
most gentle way of accepting food of any pointy beaked bird
that I ever met)
But today Everest just plain slammed his body against the
gate trying to hit me. Of course he could not touch me but
it was shocking. hmmmm....hormones or just the bad day???
anyhow I took that catalpa hornworm and gave it to a peahen
named Twister's Firstborn who was happy to accept it

Wow! Sorry your peacock tried to mash you against the gate. Would you take a rolled up newspaper and give him a tap with it if he does it again? Our peacock strides after my husband and I when we walk in the garden, and he follows our neighbour in a similar fashion when he's in his garden too. It's a bit sinister. He seems to have an intent about it, like we're on HIS territory! I thought I'd probably take a newspaper and bop the peacock with it if he tried to start anything...just to assert the pecking order properly with HUMANS at the top! I know it sounds a bit mean, but I don't need big birds like that thinking it's ok to chase me in my own garden! :))

Actually Everest was inside pen and I was outside which
explains why all that this son of Neverland the Insane could
hit was the gate.
But later when I wished to carry a peahen through his pen
from an inner pen--I did use a light training rod to ask
Everest to go into his coop. He went in without even being
touched by the rod. Since I did not shut the door he popped
right back out of coop but I had made my move through his
pen with that peahen very swiftly.
Everest and I do understand eachother very well most of the
time.
But sometimes I tease him by standing less than two feet
from him so that he can stare at the shins that he would
very much like to whack--if only there were not those
hands ready to grab him....there is a BIG difference
between being insane and being stupid.
The way that he hit the gate was unusual--it was an extra
bad day

++++++++++
NO, NO, and NO....
his face is innocent. Like all my white spaldings he has
blue gray eyes. His green spalding father, Neverland, had
very gentle looking brown eyes so that I could NOT believe
that he really wanted to fly at me with his spurs. His
insanity made him do it. I always deflected his attacks without bruising him.
