I keep my peafowls in "secure pens" because here in
Georgia USA there are plenty of varmints (predators)
wanting to eat poultry at my expense. One adult peacock
per pen is best. If you are going to "free range" then the
picked on bird should be able to escape from persecution

Thanks DCT.

I have plenty of space so I am considering free ranging, but I know I have to keep them in for a good while to get used to me and the place. Tomorrow I will put them in an ark itself inside an enclosure while I check them out for bugs, etc. and we finish off the netted polytunnel and their roost. I am not trying to save money by free ranging as we have had outbreaks of bird flu in France and when that happens all birds have to be penned and the pens not only netted by covered with tarpaulins, I just love all my animals to be free as much as possible. I am used to chickens on my lap and llamas looking in the windows.

I am curious how you keep you peacocks from wandering away.
I have tried keeping them in enclosed for a time 2 months and introduced a female , I have other birds and chickens but they seem to wander down the stream to neighbors who have other peacocks.
Should I continue to herd them home or will they come back on their own?
