Her son, his eyes warm with empathy, positioned himself in order to shield her from the brunt of the blast. Annalee lifted her head and favored him with a brief smile of gratitude before returning to her dismal musings. Not satisfied with this encounter, the nearly grown colt nuzzled her forcefully. A rueful chuckle erupted from the mare's lips as she looked up at him. "I'm sorry Flame, I guess I'm just preoccupied." Nuzzling him in return, she smiled apologetically. The colt bobbed his head, apparently heartened by her show of affection. Breathing heavily through his nostrils, he laid his head on her withers and nudged her in an open invitation for a rant and rave fest. Shaking her head over her son's intuition, she began to speak softly of the stallion that had so quickly taken over her heart. Her words gained a slight edge as she repeated the events of the previous day and her mate's inattentiveness. "I really don't know if I made the right decision anymore," she confessed finally, tears standing in her velvet eyes. Unable to express his own feelings on the subject, her son settled for a prolonged session of nuzzles and affectionate nudges to let his mom know she was still loved by at least one member of the herd. The mare smiled softly. "I love you too Flame," she whispered before both horses fell into peaceful silence.
