A proud smile graced her features as she watched the young colt buck and squeal to his heart's content. Noticing her attention, he doubles his efforts to show off for his mom. Laughing, the mare nodded in admiration. Smirking proudly, the colt returned to her side and nuzzled her neck. A soft sigh emits from his little throat as he looks around for an absent figure.
"Checking for your father?" she asked softly, nuzzling his little mane. The colt nodded in reply and sighed again, disappointed by the results of his search. Dark eyes gazed at her, filled with hurt and sadness. Moved by his expression, she nuzzled him more fervently.
"He'll be back soon Flame, I promise. In the meantime, what's wrong with hanging out with your ole mom?" she asked lightly, trying to brighten his mood. A sheepish smile spread across his face and he butted her lightly. Whickering softly to her, he began to help paw at the snow to uncover the sweet grass underneath.
"Aww, how sweet. You're taking care of me now kiddo?" she laughed, butting him gently in the rump. The colt grinned and moved next to her for his own meal, suckling heartily. His little tail whisked happily at his flanks and his foreleg pawed at the snow. The mare smiled as she resumed grazing but her eyes remained troubled. It was evident that the colt needed his father, as did she. Come back to me soon Scorpion she thought somberly.
