GROWING TOGETHER

_________________________

Acts 2:42-47 (NRSV)

They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
Awe came upon everyone, because many wonders and signs were being done by the apostles. All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need. Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

We, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another.

EVERY year my family spends a long weekend, together with other families in our parish, at a large beach house. During this time we develop deeper bonds of friendship, understanding, and love with this group. We take time to listen to each other in an unhurried environment and to work on our relationships with one another.

Too often we allow a distance to grow between us and other people in our community. Our interactions with our family, friends, and community can become superficial and consequently leave us with a vague sense of "unfinished business" or unfulfillment. Time away, time alone, and time together are all important elements in the search for meaning in our lives.

As we search, Christ is always available to us to listen in the silence of our homes, in the noise and excitement of a big gathering, and in times of prayer, service, and Holy Communion. Our spiritual growth is a continual "work in progress." And Christ is with us, whether or not we acknowledge his loving, understanding, and forgiving presence.

Prayer: Jesus, keep us in your circle of friends. Help us to take
time to nurture our relationships with you and with your friends. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
What strengthens my relationship with Jesus Christ?
