Subject: Preaching in the Ghetto

Preaching in the Ghetto:

This was a tough neighborhood back in the late 70's... plenty of riots and those folk did not trust the white man too much, I tell you! Needless to say, after being out all night booga-loogaing, very few of them were up in the morning for church and rarely did they tithe more than a few copper pieces in the collection basket.

So in order to draw their interest towards the church, I called my good buddy in Christ, George "Houston" Barnes and got him to bring around his old Chevy pickup. We called this ministry "Operation: Fishers of Man" and I'd get myself set up in the bed of his truck with my fishin' gear while George would drive through the inner city. I used a good 120 pd. line and would attach a nice, ripe watermellon to the end of that line and we'd "reel 'em in"! Amen!

And let me tell you how successful we were! Often times, we'd have entire mobs of them chasing after us, excited to a fever! Well, we'd lead them to the church, slam shut the doors and spring some good 'ol Southern Baptist Gospel on them before they knew what hit them! We saved a lot of malnourished souls those days... though regrettably, I've lost some spring to my step and probabaly wouldn't be able to dodge all those broken bottles anymore!

Praise the Lord!
