The egg rocks precariously. Scrabbling sounds come from inside its polished surface, the sounds of uncut nails fighting the hard imprisonment. Then, the egg's red is suddenly blemished by a long black mark of beginning freedom. An ebony claw peeks through, furiously scratching, scratching, scratching....

The crack broadens, and the first taste of fresh air rushes inside to meet the deprived hatchling. A haunting croon comes from the muzzle that is thrusted out of the egg. Bit by bit the hatchling emerges to greet the dark dwelling of his mother. Deep blue eyes blink away the glaze of just awoken life, and then shut abruptly as they are flooded with more light than they can hold at first glance.

Gleaming wetly, the richly-colored bronze hatchling pulls himself from the egg, shattering most of it as he whips his tail weakly. He stumbles, and draws himself upright on four unsteady paws. He lets out the haunting croon once more, his head turning uncertainly side to side. All he can think of is that of who he would soon call mother....

Not a breath escapes the gold Queen, as she witnesses the birth. My first born son. Dumbly, she stares at the hatchling for a moment longer. Then, reminding herself, the Queen draws a deep, well-needed breath of oxygen, prior to emitting a soothing answer to her son's shrill cry.Isis22:23:47 02/15/02 Fri

Amist the commotion presented by the birth of her elder sibling, the unborn wakes from her spherical shelter of darkness. A sense of claustraphobia soon overshadows any comfort this darkness held for her. In a rage, the unborn breaks free, entering the domain of the living. Yelping a glee of victory, the dragonling opens eyes of ice blue. As they focus, the bright ball of colors separate into distinct shapes. Again she yelps, this time demanding attention from the oddly familiar shapes. (NT)Halette22:53:03 02/15/02 Fri
