Biff,

-> You wrote, "BTW, since the premise of the tobacco shake down (the cost of which is born exclusively by smokers) was to recoup the money the government is supposedly spending on health care for smokers, shouldn't every last cent of the money the government is collecting be spent for health care for smokers?"

I can appreciate your sentiments but the facts are that tobacco causes health problems and even kills some people. Is it fair that I should be taxed to pay for you or other smoker's health care caused by smoking. I smoked three packs a day for 15 years then one day decided inspite of my liking to smoke, it was a filthy habit coming between me and my dogs. They wouldn't come near me or go in any room I smoked cigaretts in. I reeked with tobacco smoke. My dogs wouldn't come near me either. That day, I went "cold turkey" as they say and quit smoking.

They all loved marijuana but detested tobacco!

Four or five times since 1987, I started to smoke a cigarette to remind me why I quit. I couldn't take but a drag or two then I remembered my dogs and I knew why I quit. My last drag was about 8 years ago.

If you want to smoke, that is your right but don't tax me to pay for you health care caused by smoking!

I like the smell of tobacco out in the open air but too much and too long, it becomes overbearing.

I appreciate your feelings but if you or Alan Eric Wootten, who I think wrote that he was a smoker of 77 years old and had no health problems. I believe if he and you want to smoke, that is your right but you can subsidize the health care of your fellow smokers. Heaven knows that non-smokers have and will still have too. That is an illegal taxation!
