Attorney seeks new trial for Ralf Panitz
HERALD STAFF REPORT

SARASOTA - The attorney for a Sarasota man found guilty of killing his ex-wife filed a second motion asking for a new trial, court documents show.

The original motion - filed a week after Ralf Panitz was convicted in March - was denied.

The second motion filed Wednesday states there is "evidence which indicates that there has been juror misconduct" and finds fault with the fact that the initial motion was denied without a hearing on the matter.

In the motion, defense attorneys ask a judge to withdraw the initial denial "improvidently issued" and set a hearing regarding Panitz' second request for a new trial.
