This was posted on another group, it's an email from Beth Karas in response to questions asked:

Fieger apparently is not getting paid. He is doing this pro bono- even though he tells the press that the German government and the Jerry Springer Show are paying him. It's not true.

There could be a civil suit down the road against Springer but his role in the criminal case is slim to none. Nonetheless, I think Fieger wants to put him on the stand to make him sweat about the embarrassment he caused Nancy.

I had a brief conversation with Eleanor yesterday at the courthouse. What she told me is on the record so I will report it on Monday. She said that as she and Ralf were watching the show on July 24, 2000 at a bar, someone from the show called her and asked her for a rematch with Nancy. (Of course, little did they know that Nancy would be dead within a few hours.) She told me she was surprised because she didn't think she "delivered" for the show. The producers had told her what to say and how to act. Eleanor claims they even wanted her to hit Nancy on stage-or attempt to-but the security guards would have prevented it. Eleanor refused to get physical. In any event, if there's a civil suit, I would imagine that Nancy's family and Eleanor would actually be on the same side (for once).

As far as Springer ducking the subpoena, he wouldn't be in trouble for that. He's not a party to the case and he's not a material witness. If Fieger can get him to the stand, he'll be lucky but I think Fieger realizes it may not happen.

Meanwhile, we're only doing half days of Panitz on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday because of the Westerfield preliminary hearing in San Diego (the guy accused of kidnapping and killing Danielle Van Damm).
And the Yates closings will probably be this week too-further complicating the coverage of Panitz. So...while I believe Panitz will be a great trial, it will be broken up by other matters that other networks will also carry. Oh well.
