We seldom have novated design contract implanted into a design and
build contract. It is a very complicated contractual arrangement
which is not favourable to contractors.

The contractor has to clearly study the conditions of the novated
design contract and calculate the risk involved. Based on the good
relationship between the client and the contractor in the past, it is
possible to establish a common aim for the project which would
adequately take care of the rights and benefits of parties involved.

Other aspects of planning and control are similar to ordinary
construction projects. Common shortcomings of design and build
contract also apply.
