Subject: 4GM requirement? - an alternate suggestion
In reply to: Talur (GuildMistress) 's message, "Re: Avatar's Guard and Quests and Other Stuff" on 14:38:35 01/16/02 Wed

4GM is a formidable target to set for merely 'entry' to the Avatar's Guard.

Maybe an alternate method might work....

What about this, which could be roleplayed and may be a fitting introduction to the service -

The Avatar's Guard is a group of elite rangers and druids, hand-picked by the Danaan Avatar for the defence of the Danaan Rangers from threats from opposing guilds.

Once a ranger or druid shows promise among the Ways of Dana, the Danaan Avatar becomes aware of their special talent. Should they prove to be exceptional in the ways of Dana, the Avatar may offer them a place at his side in the Avatar's Guard. Only the most Spiritual, Valorous and Selfless of Danaan Rangers shall be chosen.

To this end, a candidate must have completed the Quest of Spirituality, the Quest of Valor, and the Quest of Sacrifice. A candidate must have also become a grandmaster in the arts of tactics and a weapon skill, and a master of anatomy if a ranger, or a grandmaster in magery and meditation, and master in evaluate intelligence if a druid.

Even though I still think that 2GM is enough of a requirement to begin with.... to be almost 3GM is still within reach of most players should they train hard enough. 4GM is a formidable total to achieve, one that a character may never achieve should they wish to spread their skill points and be more of 'an all-rounder'. One of the more memorable opponents I have faced was in fact 0GM but had several complimentry skills all in the 90's and had knowledge of PvP tactics. The focus of the Avatar's Guard would be to interact with other guilds, not necessarily belting them over the head all the time.

It's a fine balancing act - you don't want 'green' characters going to battle should the Avatar's Guard join one... but you also need to set reasonable targets for your members to achieve.

This will be the last I mention the skills requirement. Although I feel strongly about this, what you decide on ultimately is your call.
