Author: Pugs
Subject: Pugs' Story

Pugs fiddled with his quill, wondering where to start, until finally the quill itself gave him an idea.

Pugs had learnt to write from an early age, his parents drilling him whenever they had time home in their busy schedules. Both parents were important members of the mage community in Moonglow, where they had lived for all of Pugs' life and years beforehand. His father was a senior member at the Lyceum, and his mother the leader of a small guild of mages whom put their efforts to chasing obscure pieces of knowledge all over Brittania. Both wanted Pugs to follow the family tradition and become a mage.

With his parents' busy schedules often taking them away from the house for long periods of time, Pugs didn't get much work done. He spent more time playing at mock sword fights with other boys and listening to tales of the Avatar than at his magic book studying. Which is not to say he didn't study at all, but despite two long years of study, Pugs still could not get the simplest spells to work without the aid of a scroll and even his parents began showing concerns.

The main turning point in Pugs' life came one day when he and one of his childhood friends dared each other to sneak up to the Moonglow graveyard and spy on the undead there.

Creeping as quietly through the bush as possible, the boys finally reached a small hill next to the graveyard. Peering through the bushes they could easily make out the undead infested graveyard before them. Filled with fear, both boys wanted to run, but before they were able to they saw a warrior approaching from the other side of the graveyard, decked out in armour and ready to do battle with the undead. Their excitement at seeing a real battle overcame their fear and the boys could barely hold down cheers as the warrior chopped down a skeleton and zombie. He fought his way into the graveyard with apparent ease but while facing three skeletons at once, two ghostly apparitions appeared behind him and started bombarding him with magic. The warrior stumbled once then a moment later fell. Just then hoofbeats could be heard approaching fast. Around the corner rode a truely impressive figure. All shining steel and pure confidence, an arrow blazed with irridescent colours from his bow and streaked toward one of the ghostly figures before the horse and rider lept the fence surrounding the graveyard. A second arrow downed the second ghost before the rider drew his sword in a blur and hacked down the other undead still standing.

The next day Pugs sold his spell-book and other magical supplies and bought a sword, shield and some basic armour. Hoping to join the warrior from the night before in order to apprentice himself, Pugs hurried to the inn, only to find the warrior had already left. Unable to bear the thought of the shame that would face him if he returned home, Pugs headed for the moongate and the rest of the world. Pugs did eventually find the courage to return to his parents and had many happy years before they died peaceful deaths. Pugs then truely started his adventures.

I want to start roleplaying, so I'll post a roleplaying profile for Pugs soon. I've already established some things but I want to flesh the character out some more in my own mind before I post it. I invite others to do the same so we can get a better feel for the characters as individuals rather than: mage/tamer, axer, mage/provoker and so on.

have fun,
Pugs
