I am posting this as a warning to others

My son (yes son), brought me a great Mothers Day gift of an account someone was selling which had a castle. He paid $200 for it, a lot of money to him but wanted to do something special for me.

I then got told the account had been hacked. I rang OSI in the States 3 times, each time being told that there was no notes added to the account about it being hacked.

The owner in the mean time had been in touch with OSI but by email. He proved to them he was the owner and had it transfered back to him.

When I found out I again rang OSI asking how they knew it was a hack and not a scam.

To prove it was his account the owner only needed to tell them his credit card details and it was then returned to him.

This means if you do purchase an account from the owner you can still have it removed from you and he can then sell it again to someone else.

To stop this OSI has a form they will fax to both players when selling of an account. There is a fee of $25 and althou I can still see problems with this method it might be a safer way to do business with people.

OSI does not bother to proceed with any other actions in these matters as it happens too often. (Good to know I am not the only fool I guess).

They also said that they don't have a procedure in place for notifing the buyer that the account was transfered back nor do they contact the buyer. As far as they are concerned he has been paying for the account. no form was filled in so it is his account.

I also asked them if my details were removed before they gave the account back and was told they were.

I also asked if they would send my email address to the owner asking him to contact me but they wouldn't.

Luckily the owner posted a message on tradespot and I did eventually get onto him but since I was asking him a lot of personal questions I wanted him to know he could trust me with any information he gave me (hence that message the other day).

It turns out that the person who hacked him was very close to him in real life and knew the account, chars, etc and therefore was very convincing when selling the account.

He also told me that when OSI transfered the account back to him my personnal details were still on the account. He knows my full name, address, and phone number.

OSI has said sorry, there is procedures in place and it shouldn't have happened but how does that help erase the info from the owner.

It seems to me that he is a nice guy and I don't think I have anything to worry about however it could have been a very different story.

Even filling in the Account Access Transfer forms that OSI has may not be as secure either.

Many people have been hurt here and it is still being sorted out but I know I will never be involved with the buying of an account again.

The owner has been hurt by the hackers actions and will take a long time for that pain to be healed. My son has hurt too and I was made to feel like a thief.

Please be very careful if you ever think of buying an account. and I hope you have better luck then I did.
