Subject: GTO

It is pretty obvious that quite a few people arent happy with the idea of taking an Austraillian car, stuffing a chevy engine in it slapping a pontiac name plate on it and selling it here in the states.

for all to whom this applies: do you dislike this new GTO because it doesn't seem right to put the Pontiac name on an unpontiac car?

I guess in a way I can see where your coming from. But GM obviously can't make a true pontiac as the last pontiac engines (worth having, therefore the 301 is excluded) rolled off the assembly line more than 20 years ago.

I am happy just having a car with good 'ol rear wheel drive. with the camaro and firebird on hiatus (and maybe a permenant vacation) this leaves: A)pickups, which arent the first choice for hot rodders (too friggin heavy) or B) Corvettes (too friggin expencive) which can only tote 2 people at a time.

I guess what I'm getting at is this: would it bebetter to call this new ride the Chevelle, or Monte Carlo? would that be better than calling this new car the GTO?

I guess one could put a pontiac angine in one of these GTOs, but they STILL wouldn't be a true pontiac, but then again after 82 firebirds arent true pontiacs either.
