The car sucks,no heritage styling and the all to familiar Grand Prix grille. The designers at ford seem to have hit a home run with the 2005 Mustang and I really wish the GTO would have been as exiting to look at as the Mustang. It is a half ass attempt by GM and should not have the GTO nameplate on it and I cant even bring myself to say "nice try".

I own a 1966 Pontiac tri-power GTO. I previously owned 1965 and 1969 GTOs.

Thirty years after the demise of the 1974 GTO GM decides to bring back the GTO in the form of a Dodge Neon lookalike with a Chevy engine and a $30,000.00 + price tag!

A better idea would have been to utilize the Grand Prix coupe body (which is a Pontiac), rear wheel drive (no stranger to NASCAR Grand Prixs), hood scoops, Hurst shifter, real wood dash, Hi-per V-8, and no "GTO" decals on the fenders.

While the GTO's styling isn't as pleasant as its Holden Monaro cousin, the clean European styling is pretty to my eyes. I dislike the Pontiac grille, but the magic of this car is in the ENTIRE package.

Some of you should stop your whining about the fact that it's not retro-themed. The '67 Mustang lends itself well to a modern interpretation; the old GTOs do not. Pontiac could have put the badge on a front-drive Grand Prix with a supercharged V6, so let's be happy that this has a V8 and rear drive.

The idea that this car has "no claim on the GTO name" is a bunch of poppycock. The new car will be faster and better handling than any previous iteration, folklore notwithstanding. This may well be my next car, people.

Your a down right fool, how can you say this car is faster then any GTO before it? what would do you live in? You have just shown everyone that you have no background in anything auto!

Read this "ANY DAY OF THE WEEK, I WILL TAKE YOUR CHEVY GTO AND BEAT YOU SO BAD YOU WILL DRIVE BACK TO THE PLACE YOU BOUGHT IT AND KICK THE SALES MENS ASS FOR LETTING YOU GET BEAT BY A ANTIQUE" I WILL HAND YOUR ASS TO YOU" So if you find yourself in PA take your happy ass up 79N to Erie, You can find me on State street, look for the green GTO, jackass!

your antique gto can beat the new gto only because of the simple fact that your gto has had so muchwork done to it. try beating my 2004 gto, i supercharged it, headers, took off the cats and i am running almost 700 horsepower and it still runs nice and smooth like it was stock, try beating that?? i smoke every vette, gto, chevelle i see!

Its not a PONTIAC, infact all you Late F body drivers with 350s or any other chevy engine guess what, your driving a Chevy, not a Pontiac. The heart and sole of a car is its engine, its kinda like "leather face" he may have joes face but hes still the same wack-o. (this gos also for that POS olds 403 that infected 79 T/As)The new GTO is the same cookie cutter chevy 350 with a diff. paint job. Gone are the days of factory racing factory, thats the same LT1 under both of GMs F bodys, your not racing anthing but whos got the faster chevy. Mr. D the guy who made the GTO said one time that "a GTO will never have anything smaller then a 389 on my watch" and in 74 they did just that with a 350 pontiac . "thanks Chevy oops i ment GM" now they have distroyed everything the GTO was about by trying to bring it back, it even looks like a 5.0? whats up with that?? A TRUE PONTIAC MAN ONLY USES A PONTIAC ENGINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stop your whining you old hack, you have no true argument other than the fact that you're clinging to the old ways when Chevy and Pontiac used much funds to make two different engines but kept similar performance numbers. It makes no sense for two GM companies to make and/or use completely different engines. GM always has a sister car to every one of its models other than the Corvette and those cars are assembled in the same plants to minimize cost. So instead of bitching about how NEW and REVOLUTIONARY the 2004 GTO is why don't you go dry hump your classic until you forget this is the 21st century and not the 1970s.

Hey Chris whast wrong did you order that POS? guess what i'm 30, and from what you wrote you sound 19! The GTO was born in 64, it was made to do battle with everyone, even the GM cars, if you did know anything you would know that even today Chevy and Pontiac are allways trying one up the other in the muck of the company. At one time GM got sued for putting an Olds sticker on an air cleaner of a Chevy engine, in an Olds. People are brand loyal, and when you bought a Pontiac GTO you got a pontiac engine, and engine that had more Net HP then a SBC in most of the 60s and into the 70s, infact the Pontiac T/A was the fastest car you could buy in the late 70s in GM out side the vette that was only 1 second quicker. Chevy didnt have a car besides the vette that could run with a Pontiac engine.

And i guess i'm holding on to old ways, and a hell of alot of other people are. 1979 was the last time they cast a Pontiac engine, 3 months ago they started casting Alm. Block pontiacs, not a chevy, a pontiac block, and the New castings of the Iron blocks have been out since 1996, and since 1990 5 new alum. heads have been cast, in Jan 03 they came out with yet another Alm head.

Your problem is that you have never been part of anything, your a class punk that jumps on the band wagon of whos winning at the time. The new GTO is and has nothing that the creator of orignal GTO had in mind for it. Its over priced, its lacking style, the first run had single exaust, and not one place on that car is the word PONTIAC, and its not even build in the US! its a dam import.

You are a cookie cutter lover, you could have 100 cars in a row that look different, and love it or hate the looks, but you dont care that they all have the same engine.

ITS A CHEVY ENGINE IT WAS MADE FOR A CHEVY WHEN YOU ASK WHAT KINDA ENGINE IT IS, THEY SAY ITS A CHEVY.

You are a want to be car guy,You would get you lily but kicked at a local track or cruz, your they guy who brags about your car, but has never done any work on it "store bought HP" And if you knew anything you would know that a true car guy spends good money on good stuff, and he/she doesnt put the cheapest part or engine in a car.

Yes GM did what they did with the engines because they might have gone under if they didnt. The new GTO is only a way for GM to make some money off a car that died along time ago, and alot of people are not happy about it, just goto any pontiac web-page. And i just may dry hump my car, cuz she is one fine car with less then 5,000 of them made in 72 my car will allways be better then and new GTO or bu that fact better then any GTO with a chevy engine in it of any year.

Oh yea, my car uses 2004 computer Tec in it, with more CNC parts you will find on any new car,and i have State of the art DFI . I'm paying less insurance, i can work on my car with no trick GM dealer tools, give or take a few O2 and 1/4 sensor sockets. Also my car can be made to go faster then that new chevy GTO could ever go.

So Dick you can remove your foot form your mouth at any time....See you on the streets in your new car, Oh to bad, your going to have to work 2 jobs to afford insurance and car payments, and with no money to buy "fast parts" you will never make it to the streets, but incase you do, jump on 79 north in PA, that will take you to Erie PA, i cruz State Street look for the Green 1972 GTO, JACKASS

NOW LETS BE NICE, FIRST OF ALL YOUR RIGHT OLD GTO'S WILL ALWAYS BE COOLER THAN NEW GTO'S, BUT DONT GET TOO WRAPPED AROUND THE AXLE ABOUT CHEVY AND PONTIAC ENGINE DIFFERENCES, DO YOU KNOW THE ACTUAL DISPLACEMENT OF A BIG BLOCK 400? HOW ABOUT 396CI, SOUND FAMILLIAR? HOW ABOUT THE BOLT PATTERN FOR THE BELL HOUSEING? WHAT KIND OF TRANNY DOES THAT GTO HAVE? OOPS! GM. IN TRUTH THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE IN PONTIAC VS. GM IS THE CYLENDER HEADS AND INTAKE MANIFOLD, ALL OTHE DIFFERENCES ARE VERY SUBTLE AND INSIGNIFFICANT WHEN IT COMES TO PERFORMANCE. THE NEW GTO IS A GREAT CAR. AND I'M SURE QUITE A FEW PEOPLE WHO DIDNT KNOW HOW TO TURN A WRENCH BOUGHT A GTO NEW IN THE 60'S AND 70'S. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH SOMBODY BUYING A NEW CAR IF THEY CAN AFFORD IT. SOMEBODY BOUGHT YOUR GTO NEW, OTHERWISE IT WOULDNT EXIST. I'M JUST CURIOUS HAVE YOU BAD MOUTHED EVERY PONTIAC BUILT FOR SAY....THE LAST 15 YEARS? IF YOU HAVE WHAT KIND OF PONTIAC MAN ARE YOU? THE CARS OF THE 60'S AND 70'S ARE NEVER GOING TO BE BUILT AGAIN, IF AUTO MANUFACTURES ARE STILL WILLING TO BUILD FAST CARS WE NEED TO BE HAPPY ABOUT IT, BECAUSE IT WONT LAST MUCH LONGER. BY THE WAY MY DAD OWNS A 1970 GTO (WHICH I LOVE) ITS THE YEAR I WAS BORN, AND I TEST DROVE A NEW 2004 MODEL A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO,I STILL CAN'T AFFORD ONE BUT IS WAS A REALLY NICE FAST CAR. AND IT IS CURRENTLY THE FASTEST PRODUCTION GTO EVER BUILT. NEXT YEAR IT WILL BE FASTER AND THEIR ADDING HOOD SCOOPS AND A JUDGE PACKAGE! I KNOW THIS PISSES YOU OFF, BUT GET OVER IT, GM IS NOT GOING TO INVENT TIME TRAVEL JUST SO YOU CAN LIVE IN THE PAST.

LETS NOT FORGET THAT PONTIAC HAS BEEN USEING GM (CHEVY) ENGINES FOR QUITE A FEW YEARS NOW, AND I DONT REMEMBER HEARING NEARLY AS MUCH DISCONTENT ABOUT THE FIREBIRD'S OF THE LAST 15 YEARS. ALLTHOUGH THE NEW GTO IS A HUGE DEPARTURE FROM THE OLD, CAN YOU NAME ME A CAR THAT IS STILL IN EXISTANCE THAT HAS A THIRTY YEAR OLD NAME AND ISN'T A HUGE DEPARTURE FROM THE ORIGINAL. EVEN THE NEW 2005 MUSTANG WITH ITS RETRO LOOK HAS VERY LITTLE IN COMMON WITH ITS 1964 SIBLING. PONTIAC IS STILL A GREAT PERFORMANCE COMPANY AND THEY WILL LISTEN TO THEIR CUSTOMERS. THEY ALREADY HAVE HOOD SCOOPS ON THE NEW 2005 MODEL, AND WHO KNOWS MAYBE A RETRO LOOK WILL HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE. BUT FOR NOW LETS BE HAPPY THAT PONTIAC HAS CHOSEN TO REVIVE THE GTO AND GIVE IT SOME DECENT LOOKS AND SOME SEROIUS HORSEPOWER. THEY COULD HAVE STRAPPED A FOUR CYLENDER IN IT THE WAY THEY DID THE LA MANS IN THE 1980'S. OR DID YOU FORGET. OH BY THE WAY THE NEW GTO CURRENTLY HOLDS THE RECORD FOR THE FASTEST PRODUCTION GTO EVER, AND NEXT YEAR THEY WILL BE MAKING 400 HP.

Rumor has it the General was upset when the word got out from downunder, that the 2k5 GTO is going to have hood intakes, optional 18" chrome wheels, and sunroof.

The 2004 GTO rocks, I own one and it does live up to having the GTO badge on it. All you other people have probably never seen one it person, let alone driven one.
So why don't all you old people realsize that the new GTO is for the new generation of muscle car fans, not you old farts who grew up in the 60's. The GTO is reborn into our era.

"Ok interior" "Handled like shit" you did not test drive a GTO more like a Mustang or Charger. As a proud '05 owner I guarantee you will not find a car with this kinda power, Interior, and handling for less than 30k. I love the sleeper look at red lights some crappy import with the coffee can exhaust tip thinks he has something till I drop the clutch and redline grab 2nd the hole time the rear end is stepping out tires smoking and I’m still sideways in 3rd. And just remember the original GTO was based on a Lemans which was a small car with a big motor the same as today only today’s GTO is more powerful, handles better, Awesome interior. And I'm glad they went to Holden to get this car there's ->NO WAY<- any American car can match the build quality of the Monaro or this GTO PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!+ Considering the total production run in '05 was only 11k units and even be less in '06 the resale on these will always be high so invest the extra cash$ and get the GTO and forget the Mustang and Charger in 20-30 years or less you could be looking at the new "Yenco Camaros" as the new GTOs will be rare again and the Chargers and Mustangs will be everywhere. They only made 322 Torrid Red/Red Hot Leather Interior 6 Speeds in '05 how many '05 red on red mustangs and chargers are they? Invest in tomorrow buy a GTO today!!!
