>The Call of Abram
>1 The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. 2 I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others.3 I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.”
>4 So Abram departed as the Lord had instructed, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran.

>The Faith of Abraham
>1 Abraham was, humanly speaking, the founder of our Jewish nation. What did he discover about being made right with God?2 If the law of good deeds had made him acceptable to God, he would have had something to boast about himself. But that was not God’s way.3 For the Scriptures tell us, “Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.” 4 When people are justified by the law of good deedss, their wages are not a gift, but something they have earned.5 But people who do not try to be justified by the law of good deeds are counted as righteous, not because of their work, but because of their faith in God who does not justify sinners.
>Romans 4:1-5 NLT (corrected according to Joseph Smith's inspired revison in the authoritative CofC Bible)

>13 Clearly, God’s promise to give the whole earth to Abraham and his descendants was based not on his obedience to God’s law, but on a right relationship with God that comes by faith. 14 If God’s promise is only for those who obey the law, then faith is not necessary and the promise is pointless.15 For the law always brings punishment on those who try to obey it. (Where there isn't any law, there isn't any sin!) 16 So you are justified by faith and works, through grace. And and all the children are certain to receive it, whether we live according to the Law, or if we have faith like Abraham’s. For Abraham is the father of us all. 17 That is what the Scriptures mean when God told him, “I have made you the father of many nations.” This happened because Abraham believed in the God who brings the dead back to life and who refers to things that don't exist as if they did.

>Nicodemus Visits Jesus
> 1 Now there was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews. 2 He came to Jesus by night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God; for no one can do these signs if God is not with him." 3 Jesus answered him, "Very truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born again." 4 Nicodemus said to him, "How can anyone be born after having grown old? Can one enter a second time into the mother's womb and be born?" 5 Jesus answered, "Very truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. 6 What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not be astonished that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' 8 The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit." 9 Nicodemus said to him, "How can these things be?" 10 Jesus answered him, "Are you a teacher of Israel, and yet you do not understand these things? 11 "Very truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know and testify to what we have seen; yet you do not receive our testimony. 12 If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man, who is in heaven. 14 And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.
> 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.
17 "Indeed, God did not send the Son into the >world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him."

>Chapter 17
>The Transfiguration
> 1 Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain, by themselves. 2 And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became dazzling white. 3 Suddenly there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. 4 Then Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here; if you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." 5 While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud a voice said, "This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to him!" 6 When the disciples heard the voice, they fell prostrate on the ground and were overcome by fear. 7 But Jesus came and touched them, saying, "Get up and do not be afraid." 8 And when they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus himself alone.
9 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus ordered them, "Tell no one about the vision until after the Son of Man has been raised from the dead."
>Matt 17:1-9 NRSV
(Edited according to the inspired corrections made by Joseph Smith, Jr., which the CofC has made authoritative by conference action. Part of the "correction" included certifyiing as correct portions of the KJV that modern translations like the NRSV have altered to give a different meaning.
