Lois, it sounds like Bill Russell has a lot in common with those revisioning the church. After all, the Bible doesn't say anything about the Kirtland Temple, so perhaps, due to that silence, by golly! gays actually did work on the Temple.

However, since there were no gay bars within a thousand miles of Kirtland at the time, I seriously doubt that there were many gay people there, "Mormon," or otherwise.

This broad, baseless (but convenient assumption) is completely analogous to Yassir Arafat's claim that "the Jews never had a Temple in Jerusalem; all they had was a little shrine."

Liberal assumptions often contradict, because they are baseless assumptions. For instance, one liberal "assumption-as-fact" is that because Jesus was a man, and Mary Magdalene was a woman, the two of them were fooling around.
Another liberal "assumption-as-fact" is that Jesus was "gay" because he is not reported to have been married. The one flies completely in the face of the other. Yet both groups coexist peacefully because they never acknowledge that they don't know what they are talking about -- they are too busy trying to wreak political maneuvers that disfranchise anyone who is remotely sane.

It takes real revisioning to take a church that was founded on the claim that America is the promised land, that its God is Jesus Christ, and people are saved by grace through repentance and faith in Him into a leftwing political party that constantly reminds all that America is an international bully that abuses all its own citizens, and that revealed religion had nothing to do with either the founding of America, or of the Community of Christ.

How long before Bill Russell combines the myth that George Washington had wooden teeth with a newly devised "gay" myth that Washington had his real teeth removed so that he could entertain Thomas Jefferson in between Jefferson's bouts of "homophobia"?

I know the CofC will say I am just awful for even predicting such a thing. But if I were a gay activist, they'd get an elderly priestess to write a paradigmatic article for the Herald explaining that the idea is "not entirely wrong," and has "merits, depending upon one's viewpoint and upon the strength of one's discipleship."
