The First Presidency is like a wayward husband who demands that his wife forgive him so he won't feel so bad about having moved his girlfriend into the house with her. After all, he reasons that if his wife really loved Jesus and was a good Christian, she wouldn't want him to feel guilty about continuing his adultery right under her nose. The First Presidency's conceptual problem runs so deep, there can't possibly be any communication or reconciliation.

And that's the gospel message John has to offer us is the exact duplicate of the FP's mess -- the equivalent of "forgive us, d_mn you!"

George
