Subject: You Have to Accept Section 156 to belong to the CofC?

Old Title: If you don't have anything nice to say......

There is a saying our grandmothers said, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."

I don't think there is anything nice to say about the Community of Christ. But I will keep saying things.

1. Conservatives, according to the peoples of the Restoration branches, people who were forced out of the church, never accepted Section 156 of the Doctrine and Covenants as being a legitimate revelation.

2. Steve Veazey is "inviting" all remaining priesthood members to give up a couple of lattes a week in order to give an extra $10 a week to the Community of Christ.

4. The Community of Christ has sent out a letter preparing the congregations to plan on how they will deal with legislating what homosexuals in the church are entitled to.

5. There seems to be a communication blackout of all discussion of Community of Christ members. Even those still communicating are screaming that discussion of the Community of Christ is off limits.

4. Presently there is a hearing going on in Saint Louis concerning the name Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and who has the right to use it and under what circumstances it may be used. Very interesting.

Lois, what is astounding is that in order to join the NCC, the hierarchy assured the membership committee that the CofC only uses the D&C and the BoM as "auxilliary scripture," and that no one is required to believe or accept these works as binding divine inspiration in order to join and remain a member in good standing in the CofC. This is because the member dnominations of the NCC are required to eschew all extrabiblical scripture.

So which is it?

Does one have to accept Section 156, and the rest of Doctrine and Coveants, including the "Satanic Sections" 160-164, or does one not? If one does not, why did all those members get thrown out for not accepting Section 156?

It just smacks of the same old liberalist complete and exclusive reservation of the right to lie, cheat, and steal for itself. This was the remark that Reagan made about the old Soviet Union, and it is true in spades for the CofC.

When a person is caught contradicting himself, he is considered either a liar, or very, very confused. When the CofC is caught contradicting itself, that is considered wise, prudent, insightful, and caring governance.

If the CofC did not lie to the NCC regarding the near-apocryphal status of the Book of Mormon and the Doctrine and Covenants, then nobody in the CofC ever had to believe or accept Section 156; thus, the prosecution of all the Restorationists who refused to accept it was grossly wrong. Like any good member of the NCC, I hope that the CofC will see its way clear to correct the wrongs that it pretty much admitted to the NCC, wrongs implicit in the documents it presented negating the sine qua non status of extrabiblical scripture in the Communitarian church.

Matt and Joanne C. and others say that "that is all over with." The paperwork presented to the NCC just recycles it back through the system all over again. If, in order to join the U.N., the U.S. had to file paperwork stating that it had no right to exercise sovereignty over Puerto Rico; if it continued to do so, and did not make reparation or resolution for any evils committed while it pretended to exercise sovereignty that it claimed it never had, what do you think the Puerto Ricans would think?

The "revisioning" of the church is a mess. Those who think otherwise are like parents seriously comparing their 6 year old's crayon drawing to the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. The sentiment is nice, but reality is against it. There is no justification for evil, and the twisting of the church's doctrine to make sin "all right" in the church, just creates contradictions that make Book of Mormon geography look easy.

The bull is still in the china shop. Not only is it still creating broken congregations, lives, and relationships, it is also depositing what bulls always deposit. And, far from being over with, it is just getting warmed up.

George
