Subject: A Parable

A priest was walking down the road, when he spied a poor man sitting by the road. The priest stopped and said, "Peace be unto you, brother. What has happened to you?

The man said, "Twenty years ago, I was discovered to be a homosexual, so my they threw me out of the village, and now I cannot make a living any more."

The priest said, "That is awful. I will have to help you with this."

So the priest and the man went up the road to the village. When the two of them came to the village, the priest went into the square and said, "You people are very unChristian. You threw this man out of the village just because of his sexual orientation. That was a bad thing to do. There is nothing wrong with this man."

The villagers replied. "It is a terrible sin to be a homosexual, and we couldn't have him among us. That's what life is like for a homosexual, and nothing will ever change that."

The priest said, "Forgiveness is the way of Christ. You need to forgive this man, let him back into the village, give him back his house, and give him a stake to restart his business. And if he finds a paramour, you must allow him into the village, too. You cannot do less than that. That is the only just thing to do."

Then one of the villagers asked, "Father, from what parish are you?"

The priest answered, "I am from St. Agnes parish. Why do you ask?"

The villager answered, "The reason that we live here in this rocky place, with little water, is because twenty-one years ago, the Pope seized the land next to the river where our village used to be, and had St. Agnes' church built on it. Why does the Pope not give us back our village? Some of us are starving because it is so hard to grow crops here."

The priest answered, "That's just the way it is. That was twenty years ago. You need to get over it."

At this, the villagers became so incensed that they started stoning the priest. Because the poor man was standing next to him, he took enough hits to knock him to the ground. As they were dying, the poor man said, "You are a useless priest. How can you help me when you and your whole priesthood are worse sinners than these accursed villagers?"
