Today is the 18th of Nisan, the day that Jesus was resurrected. He could have been resurrected any time after sunset last night. That is when the new day began and the weekly Sabbath was over. Mary Magdalene and some other women went to the tomb at around 6 or 6:30 A.M. when it began to be light and Jesus was gone.

So, today is called Good Friday because the Christian world and Gregorian calendar says Christ died on Friday. But really today is Good Friday because the anniversary of Christ's resurrection happened to fall on a Friday this year.
