D&C 91

And again, verily I say unto you, my friends, A commandment I give unto you, that ye shall commence a work of laying out and preparing a beginning and foundation of the city of the stake of Zion, here in the land of Kirtland, beginning at my hiouse; and behold, it must be done according to the pattern which I have given unto you. And let the first lot on the south side be consecrated unto me for the building of an house for the Presidency, for the work of the Presidency, in obtraining revelations, and for the work of the ministry of the First Presidency, in al things pertaining to the church and the kingdom.

Verily I say unto you, that it shall be built fifty-five by sixty-five feet in length thereof, in the inner court; and there shall be a lower court, and a higher court, according to the pattern which shall be given unto you hereafter; and it shall be dedicated unto the Lord from the foundation thereof, according to the order of the priesthood, according to the pattern which shall be given unto you hereafter; and it shall be wholly dedicated unto the Lord for the work of the Presidency. And you shall not suffer any unclean thing to come in unto it; and my glory shal be there, and my presence shall be there; but if there shal come into it any unclean thing, my glory shall not be there, and my presence shall not come into it.

And again, verily I say unto you, The second lot on the south shall be dedicated unto me, for the building of an house unto me, for the work of the printing of the translation of my Scriptures, and all things whatsoever I shall command you; and it shall be fifty-five by sixty-five feet in the width thereof, and the length thereof, in the inner court; and there shall be a lower and a higher court; and this house shall be wholly dedicated unto the Lord from the foundation thereof, for the work of the printing, in all things whatsoever I shall command you, to be holy, undefiled, according to the pattern, in all things as it shall be given unto you.

And on the third lot shall my servant Hyrum Smith receive his inheritance. And on the first and second lots, on the north, shall my servnatgs Reynolds Cahooon and Jared Carter receive their inheritance, that they may do the work which I have appointed unto them, to be a committee to build mine houses, according to the commandments which I, the Lord God, have given unto you. These two houses are not to be built until I give unto you a commandment concerning them.

And now I give unto you no more at this time. Amen.

I thought this passage would be interesting because it was received in 1833, the year that Fanny Alger, the 16 year-old housemaid of Joseph Smith, Jr. and Emma Smith allegedly became Joseph Smith's "plural wife" as polygamy is taught in the Mormon church. It was John who brought up Miss Alger, so I thought that it would be interesting to see some of what God had to say to Joseph, Jr. during this period. It is also an interesting revelation from God to Joseph Smith, Jr., because it commands a special building to be built for, among other things, printing the new translation made by Joseph Smith, Jr., which is now known as "The Inspired Version of the Bible," and is the authoritative text of the Old and New Testaments for the Community of Christ, and, along with the Book of Mormon and the Doctrine and Covenants, constitutes the only officially recognized and authoritative text of God's word for the CofC.

Apparently John believes that Joseph was sleeping with Fanny at the time. Whether he believes that they were "married" or not remains to be seen, but since he alleges that the D&C revelation defining marriage as between one man and one woman (not two men or two women, or one man and three women, etc.) was written because of the rumored "marriage" of Joseph and Fanny, I would say that John has telegraphed to us under the table that he believes the man who was receiving revelations for the Community of Christ in 1833 was having regular extramarital sex at the time. The subject of this revelation came up because of the inconvenience the Community of Christ has with its association with the Mormon church -- both in the matter of polygamy and sodomy. The revelation's claimed origin (as John claims) is embarrassing because the CofC has never really come to grips with stories about Joseph's intense appreciation of the opposite sex AND because the revelation conflicts with the Community of Christ' current push to legitimatize same sex marriage within the ritual of the church.

The sort of things going on in the Community of Christ makes one wonder if it has time to think about Lent. Perhaps that's why the lenten scripturs John has posted come from another source, rather than from the CofC's own authoritative scriptures -- the CofC is too busy with homosexuality for any of its teachers to sit down and make a set of Lenten scripture readings from the Three Standard Works of the Community of Christ.

Since I'm not currently busy dealing with homosexuality, adultery, etc., I am glad to jump in and help John with his project by posting scriptures from John's very own church, scriptures it shares only with the Mormon church. Since I'm also not having to work so hard to convince everybody that the rotten human sinfulness that I am personally beset by is a blessing and gift from God, I have the time to pitch in.
