Lois, the story about Fanny and Joseph in the barn is a staple of antiMormons. Virtually everybody has heard about it. But usually only the bare details of the story are told. Usually nothing is told about Fanny's connection to the family, and nothing is said about who knew what and when they knew it. Likewise, although the antiMormons criticize the official "First Vision Story" of 1820 as not having appeared in print until 1838, they do not have a problem with the story of Fanny and Joseph seemingly originating in 1838. What would be strange about that is one might question that an 1835 revelation would be given to silence rumors that were not grounded until 1838.

There is much in the early church that is strange and confusing. But I see that the more liberal members of the CofC are especially ready to believe anything, regardless of how bad it is, and to dismiss any of the good stuff as mere "faithbuilding" fables. Small wonder the CofC wants to get Mr. Peabody, Dr. Who, Rip Hunter, or the boys from the Time Tunnel to move its founding from 1830 to 1860. I think even Buffalo Bob had a device at one time that could have been used to assist.
