Psalm 31: 9-16
9 Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am in distress. Tears blur my eyes. My body and soul are withering away.

10 I am dying from grief; my years are shortened by sadness. Sin has drained my strength; I am wasting away from within.

11 I am scorned by all my enemies and despised by my neighbors�even my friends are afraid to come near me. When they see me on the street, they run the other way.

12 I am ignored as if I were dead, as if I were a broken pot.

13 I have heard the many rumors about me, and I am surrounded by terror. My enemies conspire against me, plotting to take my life.

14 But I am trusting you, O Lord, saying, �You are my God!�

15 My future is in your hands. Rescue me from those who hunt me down relentlessly.

16 Let your favor shine on your servant. In your unfailing love, rescue me.

Job 13:13-19
13 �Be silent now and leave me alone. Let me speak, and I will face the consequences.

14 Yes, I will take my life in my hands and say what I really think.

15 God might kill me, but I have no other hope. I am going to argue my case with him.

16 But this is what will save me�I am not godless. If I were, I could not stand before him.

17 �Listen closely to what I am about to say. Hear me out.

18 I have prepared my case; I will be proved innocent.

19 Who can argue with me over this? And if you prove me wrong, I will remain silent and die.

Philippians 1: 21-30
21 For to me, living is Christ and dying is gain. 22 If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which I prefer. 23 I am hard pressed between the two: my desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better; 24 but to remain in the flesh is more necessary for you. 25 Since I am convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with all of you for your progress and joy in faith, 26 so that I may share abundantly in your boasting in Christ Jesus when I come to you again.

27 Only, live your life in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that, whether I come and see you or am absent and hear about you, I will know that you are standing firm in one spirit, striving side by side with one mind for the faith of the gospel, 28 and are in no way intimidated by your opponents. For them this is evidence of their destruction, but of your salvation. And this is God's doing. 29 For he has graciously granted you the privilege not only of believing in Christ, but of suffering for him as well-- 30 since you are having the same struggle that you saw I had and now hear that I still have.
