That's the question we should be asking. For twenty years, the leadership has been "incorporating the experiences of gays and lesbians" into the priesthood. Now that they are in leadership positions, the church is asking them to decide what the church's position on homosexuality should be.

What they really mean is that they are going to decide just when the membership at large is going to be told what the decades old position of the church already is on homosexuality -- wide open! The church is not debating over whether to become "gay" theologically, but over when it will be safe for it to come out of the closet.
