Jack quickly ducks under the flicking dagger at the same time as sidestepping the thrust. He can't quite get out of the way in time, however, and gets a light cut in his left arm. With his right, he reaches up and grabs the end of his staff. The straps come off as he uses his shoulder as a lever to throw a blow at her head. Stepping back, he rips out a shred of his black shirt, revealing leather armor underneath. He ties it around the cut as a makeshift bandage and brings his staff up in a defensive position.
