Gates of Arabia

Desert stretches endlessly around you, the only sign of inhabitation the low, windswept buildings in a ragged line. You approach the settlement, the first sign of life since the oasis, and are hailed by a moustachioed guard in a turban.

He grunts noncommitally, and gestures you into the rude village. The village soon becomes a town, the town a city, and a magnificient palace towers at the far end.
