Hello. Your message was brought to my attention because the Turpins are connected to my family of Barnes. One Ozias Barns (es) was married to a Jane Fleming in Greenbriar Cty., now West Virginia. He died very early and his wife married Aaron Turpin. They moved at sometime to Wayne Co., KY as did my own 3-G Grandfather, William M. Barns. William's children went to Owen County around 1814 and eventually, Wm. did as well. And many people with whom he was associated. Then they went to Clark Co. (became Coles Co. where they were) in Illinois. You might try there.

Now, here is another interesting thing. The DNA of my brother (Barns) matches no other Barnes families in the Family Tree Maker DNA study. But it does match one person perfectly - in Wales! This person claims to be of Celtic Royal lineage. There are in this lineage Barnes, Turpins and Lankfords. My family is also connected to the Carters though I cannot document a marriage. Some Carters have very similar DNA, differing on only 2 markers out of 25. So, I don't know that I can help find where your James Turpin went but we might help each other with some clues as wo where he came from. Do you know where in Virginia he was born in 1790? My William Barns was born in 1762 and I believe it was present Rockbridge County but can't prove it. They appear to be Scots. The others he was with were in York Co. Pennsylvania earlier. Do you know who the parents of Nancy Ann Carter were? I recently published my genealogy but it keeps developing. You might live near one of the libraries where I sent it. Hope we might help each other. Kate
