Subject: Looking for my grandfather ? Wise?

I am looking for my paternal grandfather. My father, Elzie Ray Wise was raised by his grandfather, Leonidas Simpson Wise, in Washington County, PA. Elzie was born in 1901 to Clara (possibly Clarissa) Eldora Wise (Clara D. or Clara Eldora) and an unknown man. He knew little about his birth circumstances except that he said he was adopted by Leonidas. Was there a marriage in 1897 that did not last? (there were two later sons, also named Wise before Clara married Isaiah Sprowls in 1910. Were there multiple fathers? We have no history that comes right out and says anything, everything was kept hush and everyone I have contact with is in the dark too. (Was grandma a "playgirl"?) If you have any info please pass it on, I would love to know. This has been a big brick in my wall. Elzie's brothers were Howard O. Wise and Earl A. Wise who later became Earl Burnfield. Any direction would be a great help. Thank you
