Subject: Staton's from Scott County

I'm researching my family, have been on and off for 10 years. I trace my great-great grandfather to Scott County, Indiana, born in 1843. His name was Harrison E. Staten married to Sarah Ann Richmond in 1861. They had three kids, one boy John William and two girls, Mary J, and Emma.

I know Sarah died in 1878 or 1879, and Harrison must have packed up and headed west to Kansas. He later remarried and then I lose his trail. The two girls show up on the 1880 census living with the Richmond family in Lexington, Indiana. John shows up in the same location with the Montgomery family at age 15, listed as a servant. From there he disappears until 1899 when he marries Laura Johnson in Knox County, In.

I'm certain any Staton's living in Scott County were related, so Lorenzo Dow, G.W., Sarah, and others I've found have to be part of that elusive thread of Staton's.

My search is about to get serious and I'll let people know what I find. I'm traveling to Scott County in April 2009 to search court records, especially the kids.
