Why Dunne should be COY -- Cindy Crawford, Sunday, March 01, 06:34:24pm [1]
In preseason coach's poll Siena was #1 pick finished there.
FF picked second finished 5th
Rider finished third as expected.
Niagara picked 4th ended 2nd.
Loyola slotted 5th dropped tom 8th
Jaspers bumped up two from 6 to 4
Iona finished 7th as expected
Canisius was penciled in at 8 but finished tied with Marist for last who were picked there
SPC was the coaches choice for 9th and made the jump out of the PIG to finish 6th with the third youngest Div1 team in the nation. They thus exceeded expectations more than any other MAAC team while winning their last five conference games. All this on the smallest budget in the MAAC.
Dunne deserves serious consideration as COY.

Cindy, liked you analysis. Agree! See my post below for some additional practical reasons. Personalities and prejudices do play a roll. Also, at least in other MAAC sports, it's not always who finishes #1 in the Conference but which team and coach made the biggest improvement. Our track coach Mike Mansone was just voted MAAC track coach of the year for coaching his team in just such a manner.

Re: Wow! what a finish. -- oldtimer#1, Sunday, March 01, 05:44:57pm [1]
A good sight to see the kids chest bumping and high fiveing. Even before the win they seemed to have developed into a tightly knit group who genuinely like and root for each other. No primadonnas and very well deserved. On a selfish note, the last half of the season is the type of thing that helps recruiting. Players want a winning program or at the very least, one headed in the right direction. Ours is.

Re: JD Coach of the Year? -- oldtimer#1, Sunday, March 01, 06:46:56pm [1]
Interesting observation by Gray Poll. My question is who does the voting and when. If it's the coaches and if it's prior to the MAAC Tournament, I'd say JD's chances are atleast 50/50. Fran is obviously the front runner but with the loss to Niagara and with the players he had to work with, I'm not so sure that he coached that wonderful a season. Coach M of Niagara always does a good job but he's won it before. Also do you think he gets the vote of Coach Willard of Iona??? Coach Cooley of Fairfield deserves consideration especially with the departure of Han and the back problems that often sideline Nero. Certainly can't see any other coach deserving consideration. Not Marist, Cansius, Manhattan, Loyola, Iona or even Rider. Heck, we beat all of them atleast once - some votes there?
So there is no doubt that JD is well in the mix. As I stated earlier, if the coaches vote (I assume they do) don't eliminate the roll of personalities and petty jealousy's. In any event JD, for the job he has done this year, is definitely deserving.
