Subject: Wait 'till next year....

Tonight....
Team gave 100% effort.
Bacon had a good game; played 1 against 3 underneath against bigger, stronger Rider front line. A force offensively, tenacious rebounding, blocked and altered shots. What upside for Ryan!
Wesley shot well and kept us in it in the first half, but missed some easy buckets going to the hole and turned it over a bit too much....not an "A" game for Wes, but, we can't get one from him every night....
Leon was forced to handle when Hall was again ineffective; had a good second half taking the ball to the hole and threw some nice passes to Bacon for dunks. Nick has come a long way. Oldtimer, take a bow.
This year was about player development and our three sophs all got better. Good job.
Next season...lots to look forward to...but we need help.
We need two or three players to help Bacon, Wes, Nick and Akeem.....either newbies or greatly improved minutes from Costner, Hall and Hill. Stats + my observations both say our top 4 need more help.
If Conley and Belin can help Ryan up front, along with an improved Gooding and Hill.....we may be well served thinking about a point guard, if at all possible, with our last scholarship. Just a thought; hope I am wrong about Brandon...but if his ceiling is anywhere near what was on display the last three games, we may be well served to consider the idea.
Buddy said Rob Kennedy said on TV Akeem has decided to return. I am glad; Akeem can be a solid contributor in a 7-8 man rotation on a good MAAC club. "Deja vu all over again" next Senior Day, continuing the Bozovic tradition! :>)
For the first time in a long, long time, I expect we can be a top division club next year....and maybe more, if Belin and Conley can play.
Goodnight, Peacock fans. Zzzzz........

We did give 100% effort...just got beat by a better team.(And there's nothing wrong with that-respectable effort from our guys) Ryan Thompson was the best player in the MAAC over the course of this season and he came up big again last night.

As for the Peacocks, it's tough for an offensively challenged team to win when they only get to the line 11 times(half as much as Rider's 22 attempts). Agree it was not an "A" game for Wes, but he needs to be more aggressive on his off-shooting nights and get his points from the free throw line-this is what the great players do(this is one of Leon's strengths). It's also tough knowing that if a team scres more than 60 points we will most likely lose...puts a lot of pressure on the denfensive end of the court.

Individually, I thought Hill played well in his 8 minutes. Was very active with 5 reb, including a nice put back. Costner has taken a step back in the last few games-was very ineffective tonight. Same for Hall.

Hope loyal is correct on Gooding returning. Our best defender and a class act to say the least. Will be a very important part of our team next year if he's there.

Mumford's already gone, will Reid be next?

Moving up in the standings will be tough since I don't see many teams falling off next year. Next season should be very competitive for the league. My hopes for next year would be to move up to 4th or 5th (10-8 in the league), get Conley and Belin integrated into our system, and set us up for a run in 2010-11.

Competition is great for the soul. It is the only way one can get better; by playing against the best competition. Do not concede next year, no matter what; we can and will make the run in 2009-10!

I agree with your opinion on competition, just stating that we aren't the only team improving or with high expectations for next season. The other coaches are getting paid as well.

Didn't mean it to sound as if I'm conceding next year. Just thought 10-8 and top 4 or 5 in the MAAC initially would be a realisitic expectation to have going into the season. While I respect what some posters have said on Conley (and in the long run I think they will be right), I have a feeling that he will struggle for at least the first half of the year 1. because he won't have played a game of competitive basketball in a year and a half (as we saw with Leon most recently) and 2. because he will be a freshman and it takes freshman time to adjust to college basketball at the MAAC level (as we saw last year). As for Belin, do you ever truely know what you're getting with a JUCO? His numbers look pretty impressive and he's played well on good teams, but who knows? We can only hope for the best.

While anything can happen, I just think it's more realistic that we will make our run two seasons. However, I think that if all goes according to plan, we will be a threat for any MAAC team this time next season.

Not so sure Gooding will return.Vibes I am getting say no.I also tend to put stock in Drutz' article on yesterday's game
that ends with his farewell to Ish and Akeem.I'd like him back, the way he's played of late, but I just don't see it.
Perhaps missed in the turmoil, was Hill's five boards in only eight minutes. There is athleticism there. He's still young and raw,but I agree with those who see the upside.
My long wish list for next season includes a face up ten footer for Ryan, and improvement in Wes' short game---he actually shot better from three than from two,.368 to .342 for the season.Nick on the other hand was .31 from three and .401 from two.
Hall must add to his offense,Costner to his strength, and as mentioned above Hill must play with more control and maturity. I trust most of this will happen.
It will be a long time before our opening next season against the Hall.I look forward to good recruiting news and already see a need for a star frosh or two . With our trio of sophs and Belin joining that class, there will be a massive void to fill in two years. We have to start reseeding now.
On the rumor front,in addition to a possible tourney next season, there is talk of possibly the Holiday Festival '10-'11.
Good to see some of the Blue Crew up in Albany. Spending time on the road with other Peacock zealots is always a great deal of fun.Particularly enjoyed closing that sports bar with SPCfan...good man.

Interesting...buddy heard Rob Kennedy say on MAAC broadcast Saturday night say Gooding had just reached a decision to stay. Guess we'll know for sure October 15th; hey, you may very well know more than Kennedy's source.
You hit the nail on the head in terms of what our remaining three players (Hill, Costner and Hall) need to work on. Hill, especially, has a good upside, IMO.
If we have enough ships to focus on re-seeding the roster, I hope we consider looking for a point guard. If '10-'11 is our best shot, which seems likely, I'd like to see a frosh point guard on the roster next season to compete with Hall......just in case hoped for development does not occur.
Rider gave a darn good showing tonight vs. the Purps; no disgrace for our guys coming up short Saturday.

Thanks Cindy. Closing bar with you after a MAAC tourney game is somewhat of a tradition for us.
