Re: Nice win-team effort -- oldtimer#1, Sunday, December 07, 09:21:03pm [1]
A win against a poor team but still a win. Not much to add to Cindy's analysis except to underline that we are a much better team in transition than in half-court offense. This was JD's stated intention prior to the season and IMO a depleated bench (Lampley, Shumate) shouldn't change that strategy. What it does is to allow Wesley and Nick to free lance, getting more open looks and possible drives to the basket. Not that this strategy will transform us into a decent team but it atleast makes us competitive against teams where we should compete.
Agree about Costner's contribution. Played excellent fronting defense and showed good passing skills. However, I don't see Jordan as a long term solution but rather a very valuable role player if and when we recruit a scoring #3.
Hill again showed why he should be our starting point guard but remember that when out of the game (played 24 minutes), Leon (34 minutes) ran the offense quite well often breaking the press by pushing the ball up court. Never saw him get trapped as was his tendency last year. The fact is that when both are in the game we almost have two point guards on the floor. One agressive (Leon) and prone to turnovers but a scorer, the other more conservative, not as quick but more under control. A nice combination. Leon is not afraid to take the ball to the basket and was clobbered several times but went to the foul line to convert. His eight rebounds underlines his agressive style of play.
As Cindy stated, the entire team played well and one hopes that this is a confidence and morale builder. It still promises to be a very long and disappointing season but there are some winable games out there. In attendance were both Conoly and Shumate.

Thanks, Cindy. I stayed home to watch the Cowboys; we know how that turned out. Now I know how you felt on Election Night :>)
Questions:
1. Didn't Canisius slant their "D" toward WJ? How did he get so many open looks? In transition, I assume?
2. Do you think Hall has the enough quickness and can become enough of an offensive threat (as Jasper did his senior season) to ultimately be successful?
3. Think Dunne is going hard after potential transfers?
Thanks!

Re: Nice win-team effort -- Cindy Crawford, Monday, December 08, 09:44:28pm [1]
1) Some looks were in transition but most were the result of three guard set with your Felecian target creating better ball movement, and as I mentioned,Cosnter not holding on to the ball too long. He's like having a point forward.
Canisius big men were not as mobile as others we have faced ,and therefore not as adept at the trap.
This was not a great team we faced, but we did treat them accordingly with a comfortable win.
2) Hall while not lighting quick,is steady, does not turn the ball over, mixes his perimeter game with occasional penetration,is excellent handling against the press, and makes good decisions in the open court, getting the ball into the right hands at the correct moment.
He plays very solid man D--perhaps needs a little improvement in team D.He has a pass first mentality, but has shown a better than average shot when he does.
I have no worries about his ability to match or surpass Jasper in that regard.
Not having come from one of the marquee high school programs
in the state,he is not as well seasoned perhaps as one from St Anthony's,Benedict's,or Pat's,but still exhibits confidence, poise and leadership,so I believe he may have more upside potential in that regard.
3) Transfer situation re Drummond favors Marist if he wants to go away.Others may have issues. Look more to a Juco who could step in immediately...we hope.

Heard Drummondout of Villanova is looking at Marist. Apparently doesn't want to be too close to home.
