Subject: Horrendous

In one of the worst performances i have ever witnessed in 40 years watching the Peacocks ,SPC was totally outmanned and outcoached tonight. This was a 1-11 team we were playing. I witnessed them lose at home to FDU earlier in the year which turned around a big deficit with an aggressive press. We didn't press enough when the game was still in hand and our lack of intensity (both players and coaching staff seemed to be in a funk) led to our ultimate demise.
We were willing accomplices in the destruction sitting back in a lazy zone late first half and early second half while Monmouth rained open threes on us opening up a huge lead.
Total lack of any offensive plan or performance. Slow telegraphed passes, lousy spacing on the offensive end, horrendous shooting usually always contested since we had difficulty creating much in the way of open shots.Hard to say i saw anything positive at all from this fiasco.
To make matters worse Monmouth's two frosh big men 6-7 Mike Myers-Keit and 6-7 Travis Taylor were everything SPC lacks in a big. Myers is an athletic wing who can handle and shoot,Taylor showed nice moves all around the paint and hit all his free throws. Calloways offense was highlighted by quick passes around the perimeter and kick outs for threes after penetration( his training under Wayne Szoke) former Princeton assistant before successfull Monmouth head coach and Calloways mentor showed very well.Monmouth had spacing, quick passes, looked for the open man and showed an ability to finish, something i saw none of in the Peacocks.
I hate to be so negative but after the gutsy performance i saw against SHU as well as the intensity shown in the second half rally to win at NJIT and in the Canisius and LIU wins all of which were situations where our defense created offense, this was a huge step back.Maybe the post exam funk struck again as happens to many teams this time of year. Also not at all that surorising that Wesley would struggle coping with the loss of a loved one and not playing for the last two games.
let's hope we get that intensity back before Tuesday.

Excellent breakdown of the breakdown.
So depressing to watch that I really didn't want to go over again it in my mind.
You did point out four positive performances however and as Loyal pointed out below ,in a team so young and thin in talent ,there is little chance of success unless most are clicking on all cylinders.Tonight few played well.
Our highlight film for this game might be a single still photo of Hill's jump hook.

Just a bad night, nothing more than that? The fact we lost to Monmouth and struggled mightly against NJIT says all we need to know about this team. Bring back Dukiet,I know he is available..

I don't think you're getting what I'm saying ,Nick. Yes this was a bad night on a team,so thin in talent that there is little margin for error. When they are bad they are terrible, yet they are capable on a given night of being competitive with about half the teams in the MAAC.
What makes you think that Dukiet would even consider returning to coach SPC? I agree he was an excellent coach and teacher of defensive skills, although his " warm and fuzzy" style might not work with today's student athlete, but I think you might stand a better chance of having Don Kennedy return.

At least if Kennedy returned, we would be sure to have a "spirited" team.

You all realize that the staff turned down Taylor. They felt he was "missing something" and couldnt play at this level. Coach's words
