Subject: Keeping a Colin promise to loyal

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Rise and Fall of Colin Powell

Colin Powell was a two star General in the mid 80s until he was
picked by Reagan's Secretary of Defense to become his military
aide. He had commanded a brigade in the 101st Airborne Division as
a Colonel, but nothing higher so it was very unusual for him to
achieve Major General (two stars) without a Division command unless
he had some other factor going for him........possibly affirmative action.

Working for Casper Weinberger, Powell made a name for himself and
was sent to Europe to command a Corps o f two divisions for the
shortest time possible (only a few months as I recall, somewhat
shorter than the normal one to two year command tour of duty) to get
that ticket punched and then right back to Washington and another
political related position.

As Reagan left office, George HW Bush liked what he had seen and
kept Powell on and nominated him to be the first black Chairman of
the Joint Chiefs of Staff, as it turns out, just in time for Desert
Shield and Storm. While Norman Schwarzkopf planned and conducted
the battle, Powell's primary mission was political, i.e. keep the
politicians away from the military so as not to repeat the mistakes
of Vietnam. Not a difficult job with Bush in the White House. He
too knew the lessons of Vietnam.

On January 20, 2001, Powell was sworn in as the 65th Secretary of
State, once again for a Republican President.

To make a long story short, it was Republican Presidents who brought
Powell from obscurity and into the highest levels of the US
government. It was Republican Presidents who made him what he is
and put him in the position he is in today. He owes his wealth,
experience and many contacts in government to Ronald Reagan, George
HW Bush and George W Bush.

If there is one thing a career Army Officer should know, it's
loyalty. Being part of the team, working to the same goals, going
above and beyond the call of duty are all part of wearing the rank
and being a leader. Colin Powell learned none of that. He only
learned to take, take, and take again as he rose in stature. Now he
had a chance to work with a man he has known for years, a genuine
war hero, an eminently qualified Republican Presidential candidate,
and he turned his back.

Instead he chose a man who cavorts with known terrorists, who sat in
church for 20 years listening to his preacher damn America, who sent
$830,000 to a group working to fraudulently register every possible
voter they can find, often more than once, a man and his close
associates who hate the military and who admits his economic
policies will be socialist at a minimum and perhaps even Marxist.

Colin Powell's page in history has yet to be written, but there will
no longer be accolades, bells and whistles. He has chosen a path
that will lead to his ruin because the crowd in which he has cast
his lot will wear him like a cheap suit and discard him at the first
opportunity. Mark my words, Powell has chosen a road to political ruin.
